Open Source
We clearly cannot trust either established manufacturers or government organisations. But who, then?
Ourselves. The idea is: ‘Openness instead of trust’. It’s called open source.
There is a growing realisation that security can only be achieved by disclosing the processes used.
With open-source software, any insider can check whether backdoors have been built in. Not every one will be detected immediately, but an attacker cannot be sure that they will remain undetected.
Both the software code and the programmes embedded in the components are freely accessible and verifiable. Any compromise of the code would therefore be public knowledge and would have no chance of success.
