PAPAGENO - Document Conversion

Faxes are usually created in a graphics or word processing programme.

Conversion to fax format takes place either on the gateway computer or on the respective user computer via a PAPAGENO printer.

Conversion on the Gateway Computer

Documents created in a Windows application can be sent as an attachment to an email to a fax address. They are converted to fax format on the gateway computer.

Fax conversion

* .doc, .docx, .htm, .html, .jpg, .jpeg, .pcl, . pdf, .tif, .txt

Advantage:

  • The CPU load for conversion is on the gateway computer.
  • To convert HTML and PDF documents, you only need to install and activate freeware.

Conversion on the User´s Computer

Documents can be created in applications and converted directly to fax format via a printer.

Under Unix, there are special PAPAGENO/comFAX printers that convert and send ASCII and PostScript documents and send documents from Unix applications to PAPAGENO as faxes.

Under Windows, the Fax MAPI printer converts the documents.

Faxkonvertierung on the client computer

The user selects Fax MAPI Printer in the application where he created the document. This printer converts the document into fax format and transfers it to the mail client. There it is stored as a *.tif attachment and can be viewed or sent immediately to a fax address.

Advantages

  • The user sees the document in the mail send window as it will be sent (TIF).
  • NNo programmes need to be maintained on the gateway computer.
  • Protection against macro viruses is guaranteed.
  • Version incompatibilities are avoided.

Disadvantage

  • The workload of the conversion lies with the user computers.

Which formats does the FAX MAPI Printer convert?

All output formats that are commonly used today: Microsoft Office formats (Word, Excel, etc.) as well as all formats supported by the OLE interface. Anything that can be printed from a Windows PC can also be converted to fax format.

The Fax MAPI Printer does not need to be configured. (It is not a client of PAPAGENO).
